Education at the GUIDE Institute for Drug Exploration

GUIDE offers a wide spectrum of courses for additional training of PhD-students, Topmaster and Master Students and MD/PhD students, including courses preparing the students for their research tasks, and in-depth courses specifically relating to their own research project. Next to the general courses, the programme contains courses on methodology, courses on pathophysiological concepts and courses on pharmaceutical research.

Every PhD -student and MD/PhD student must fill out the Training &  Supervision Plan.  Please send it to GUIDEoffice to have you registered in GUIDE's DBase. We advise you to keep track of your (educational) activities in the GUIDE Log (journal).
The GUIDE certificate is awarded upon obtaining the required number of ECTS, and will be presented at the concluding Defense Ceremony. Curriculum and research activities should be registered in the GUIDE log during the entire research period.

Study requirements
Every PhD-student must be registered at the Graduate School. This applies for everyone preparing a PhD-thesis. The curriculum has a varied programme, which gives all researchers working on a thesis the opportunity to join in courses related to their research and circumstances.

Apart from taking courses, it is important that the PhD-students become familiar with activities related to the transfer of knowledge, such as keeping up with professional literature, participation in work discussion meetings and reference meetings of the student's own research group and - in consultation with the supervisor or promotor - of other research groups, active participation in local and national scientific meetings and international meetings.

The GUIDE postgraduate curriculum is based on the European Credit System (ECTS). During the "standard" four years' research project a number of 30 ECTS must be obtained by taking courses and visiting workshops (both GUIDE courses and courses/workshops at other institutes). As there are several categories of PhD-students the required number of ECTS varies.

1 ECTS = 28 hours approx.
The GUIDE Education Committee is responsible for assigning the credits.
Contact person: Ms. Riekje Banus.
